Electrical Engineer Intern
Support the EE team on PCBA design, bench testing, and prototype bring-up. Flexible schedule, real hardware, short feedback loops.
About the role
OpenPPG is an innovative company specializing in electric paramotors and other upcoming electric ultralight aircraft, committed to advancing aviation with lightweight, efficient, and affordable flight solutions for the everyday man. The Electrical Engineer Intern will support the design and testing of critical hardware components for our electric paramotors and ultralight aircraft, including battery management systems, motor controllers, power distribution boards, and sensing electronics. This role has a flexible work schedule with no clock-in/out but does have project timelines that must be met, and is targeted at students in their final year of an undergraduate degree, or recent graduates completing their degree by the end of 2026 or the following year.
What you'll do
- Design and test full or sub-sections of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for electric paramotors and ultralight aircraft — battery management systems, motor controllers, power distribution boards, or sensing boards.
- Support the review of design artifacts, including schematics, layouts, and bills of materials, from peers or external suppliers.
- Contribute to system integration and testing activities, including test execution, problem diagnostics, and resolution for electric propulsion systems.
Required qualifications
- Undergraduate senior or recent graduate in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience (degree not required).
- Solid electrical engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBAs.
- Experience with EDA tools (Altium, KiCad) for schematics and layout.
- Experience with power electronics (motor drivers, switch-mode power supplies, BMS), digital electronics (MCU, FPGA, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I²C), and analog electronics (filters, ADC/DAC).
- Excellent troubleshooting mindset and tenacity with a high level of autonomy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
Not a checklist — we're looking for strong candidates, not perfect ones.
- Experience using LTspice, Python, and MATLAB.
- Embedded programming experience with DSPs, microcontrollers, and FPGAs.
- Basic understanding of aerospace or mechanical design fundamentals, particularly in lightweight aircraft applications.
Compensation & benefits
$25 – $35 / hour
Total compensation may include additional components/benefits to be shared upon employment offer.
How to apply
Candidates must submit a resume/CV and a portfolio of past projects (PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, or RTF formats).
